A woman accused of firing pepper spray at other shoppers on Thursday night has surrendered to the authorities, Los Angeles
Sgt. Jose Valle of the Los Angeles Police Department said the woman, who is accused of having caused minor injuries to 20 shoppers at a Wal-Mart store in the area, turned herself in on Friday night.
She is not in custody but could face battery charges, Sergeant Valle said. The woman’s identity was not revealed, but the police said they planned to release further details about the case. The episode occurred around 10:15 p.m. on Thursday, shortly after the store opened for a Black Friday sale. Employees brought out a crate of discounted Xbox video game consoles, and a crowd formed to wait for them to be unwrapped.
Sergeant Valle said the woman began spraying people to get an advantage.
The incident was among several nationwide in which violence marred the traditional kickoff to the holiday shopping season.
In the most serious case, a robber shot a shopper who refused to give up his purchases outside a Wal-Mart store in San Leandro , Calif.
